Masseur

You can choose to study: after 12 grades (duration of studies – 2 years).

After completing the masseur training programme and entering the higher education school, additional points can be included into the competition score.

Masseur training programme is provided to persons having the secondary education.

The aim of the programme is to prepare the masseur able to plan and provide the massage procedures and evaluate their effectiveness, educate the need for healthy life-style, tolerantly communicate and cooperate with colleagues, clients/patients, to work in a team, adapt flexibly to varying labour market requirements.

The future masseurs are studying anatomy, physiology and pathology basics, rehabilitation and pharmacology basics, basics of contagious and skin diseases, massage basics, internal diseases and massage, surgical diseases and massage, nervous diseases and massage, paediatric diseases and massage, hygiene and cosmetic massage, sports massage, etc. Duration of final practice – 15 weeks.

The vocational readiness of the student, who passed the entire training programme, is demonstrated by the results of competency assessment examination which evaluates the competencies and general skills laid out in the curriculum. The composition of the commission of competency assessment examinations, organisation and the procedure of the issue of documents are regulated by the Ministry of Education and Science.

After completing the masseur training programme, it is possible to continue studies according to the higher education study programmes in the area of healthcare, rehabilitation.

 

Description of qualification

 

The masseur’s qualification is necessary in order to work as a masseur.

The person, who acquired the masseur’s qualification, shall:

  • be able to evaluate the development of person’s physical and psychical health, explain the need for massage to a client, ensure the safety and professionalism of provided services, compose the plan of masseur’s actions, do the massage individually, recognise the life-threatening conditions, evaluate them and react properly, educate clients on the principles of healthy life-style, communicate and cooperate with healthcare and other specialists;
  • know the anatomical, physiological, psychological characteristics of people of various age groups, pathogenesis, symptoms and possible complications of the most usual illnesses, methods and techniques of massage, indications and contraindications, documents regulating the masseur’s activity, legal acts regulating the labour relations, methods of medical rehabilitation, principles of organisation and distribution of work of rehabilitation specialists, requirements of personal and environmental hygiene, risk factors to health, the main groups of medication and their impact on the organism, principles of ergonomics and possibilities of its application, basics of civil safety and rescue system;
  • work responsibly, attentively, individually and in a team, communicate tolerantly with colleagues, clients/patients and their close ones, maintain critical thinking, be able to manage stress in case of physical and psychological tension.

The secondary education is necessary for those, who seek to acquire the masseur's qualification.

Persons, who acquired the masseur’s qualification, will be able to work individually and in personal healthcare institutions, in social care establishments, providing care and rehabilitation services to persons of various age groups, disabled persons, families and community, in sports and health centres and clubs.
